Doctors from Cherkasy Oblast received a high-end ventilator  from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

25.11.2020

On 25 November, Uman Central District Hospital (the village of Rodnykivka) received a French ventilator from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. The equipment was delivered within the framework of the project Fighting COVID-19 in Ukraine, which became part of the large program Rinat Akhmetov – Saving Lives.

"Rinat Akhmetov was the first to help the country and allocated 300 million UAH to fight the coronavirus. Doctors from all over Ukraine received over 200,000 personal protective equipment and supplies, and 337,000 rapid tests from the Foundation and businesses of SCM Group. Over 200 ventilators were also purchased, and over 180 have already been transferred to doctors. This equipment is provided by both large clinics in regional centers and very small hospitals, making this modern European  medicine accessible to all. The Central District Hospital in the village of Rodnykivka also became a participant in the project. We have never had such equipment before," Natalya Yemchenko, member of the Supervisory Board of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, said.

Kateryna Svyrydenko, Foundation's representative, noted that the ventilators that are passed to doctors are regarded as the most modern ventilators in the world.

"They are easy to use, and they minimize human error to a significant extent. Ventilators can be used immediately after installation, and that is very important at the time of the epidemic when saving a life is a matter of right here, right now. Using the smart mode, a device itself analyses the patient's condition and selects the most optimal level of oxygen supply," Kateryna Svyrydenko said.

Medical Director of Uman Central District Hospital, Oleksandr Kuchmiy thanked the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for its help.

"On behalf of the entire team, I would like to express my gratitude to the Foundation and its Founder for delivering this high-end equipment. It will help treat severe coronavirus conditions. This device will be used in the Division of Infectious Diseases and the Intensive Care Ward. We are very grateful," the doctor said.

Deputy Head of Cherkasy Regional State Administration, Larysa Kosheva, noted that the coronavirus has become a real challenge to the Ukrainian health system:

"Medicine was not fully prepared for this challenge. We are expecting a ventilator from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation today. This is certainly the equipment  we required. We deeply appreciate this assistance.”

First Deputy Chairman of Uman District Council, Serhii Zhornytskyi, stressed out that local authorities are doing everything possible to meet the needs of medical professionals, but this objective is impossible to be accomplished without the help of benefactors.

"I would like to express my gratitude to Rinat Leonidovich for helping our hospital. This equipment will give us the opportunity to save the lives and health of the residents of Uman District," Serhii Zhornytskyi said.

Along with the ventilator, doctors of the intensive care unit received individual sets of medical clothing from the Foundation.

Fighting COVID-19 in Ukraine is a large-scale project of the Foundation created to help save people's lives. It is implemented under the program Rinat Akhmetov – Saving Lives. Earlier, Rinat Akhmetov launched 200 Ambulances for Ukraine, which was was implemented as part of this program. Back then, all regional state medical institutions received 200 special vehicles with state-of-the-art military equipment that can get over off-road conditions within the record time of six months. Moreover, 22 vehicles equiped with ventilators`for newborns were also delivered. This is the largest contribution made by one philanthropist to the state medicine of Ukraine since our country became independent. These days, many of these ambulances are involved in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic.
