Donbas residents told who was helping them survive: survey data
According to the survey results, 50.8% of Donbas residents today need humanitarian assistance. Such data were announced by the Director General of the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) Volodymyr Paniotto on April 17 in Kyiv, at the reporting event “Donbas and Civilians” of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center. According to him, first of all it is a question of food, medications, household items and child nutrition.
“According to the respondents, the Rinat Akhmetov Center provides the most assistance to the Donbas residents. More than half of the respondents in Ukraine believe that the work of the Center prevented a humanitarian catastrophe in Donbas, and 34% of the polled residents in Donbas state that without the help of the Center, their family might not have survived,” said the sociologist.
Volodymyr Paniotto noted that almost 52% of the inhabitants of the whole Ukraine are also convinced that the Humanitarian Center provides the greatest support to the region inhabitants.
In turn, Deputy Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Ivane Bochorishvili announced the following figures: out of 4.4 million people affected by the conflict in Donbas, 3.4 million need humanitarian assistance. In addition, another 1.5 million have become internally displaced and also need support.
“A very large number of people in need are over 60 years old. Two hundred thousand inhabitants along the contact line are almost daily exposed to bombardments. Every month, millions of people cross the contact line to receive pensions and social benefits, but the situation on entry-exit checkpoints is very sad,” concluded Bochorishvili.
