“The new apartment gave me back the ability to work”: Mykhailo Vysotskyi is once again popularising science thanks to Rinat Akhmetov’s support

Mykhailo Vysotskyi, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and science communicator, has celebrated moving into his new apartment in Kyiv. The apartment had previously been gifted to the scientist by Rinat Akhmetov. Among those who came to congratulate him were Nataliia Yemchenko, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, Kseniia Sukhova, Director General of the Foundation, and close friends. To mark the housewarming, the scientist was presented with professional equipment needed to resume work on his YouTube channel.
“Our main priority was to ensure that Mykhailo could return to his work and his lectures as quickly as possible. We took care of both his new home and the filming equipment. We are delighted that he is able to continue working and inspiring young people,” said Kseniia Sukhova, Director General of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.
The celebration coincided with the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, so the guests congratulated Mykhailo with a symbolic “Independence Pie” – a tradition that is already becoming a wonderful way to celebrate the national holiday in a special manner and brings Ukrainians together.
“Ukraine lacks a culinary tradition for Independence Day. At the same time, we have a tremendous pie-making tradition that has never been formally documented. It should be all about pies – everyone can have their own recipe. Families should gather around these pies and share them together. I would like to congratulate all of us on Independence Day! Today is a proper housewarming celebration together with friends. I really love the fact that it is taking place literally on Independence Day.” “After all, a home is, to a great extent, about independence,” said Nataliia Yemchenko.
For Mykhailo Vysotskyi, the new apartment is not only a form of personal support but also an opportunity to continue promoting Ukrainian science. The Foundation’s team has created suitable and comfortable conditions for him to work on new video lectures and further develop his YouTube channel.
“It is wonderful that so many guests came to visit me and celebrate the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to live a full life and continue creating! After the forced interruption, my channel remained inactive for a long time, but now I have resumed releasing my lectures. I cannot say that I have fully recovered, but I do have the opportunity to work again. And I believe I will continue doing my best to bring enjoyment to my viewers and give them the opportunity to learn something new about our Universe through my stories,” said the scientist.
In July this year, Mykhailo Vysotskyi’s apartment was completely destroyed as a result of a russian attack. Along with his home, he lost his personal belongings, scientific work, technical equipment, and the tools necessary for his work and for creating educational content. Upon learning of the tragedy, Rinat Akhmetov decided to purchase a new apartment in Kyiv for the scientist. Just one month after the tragedy, the scientist received the keys to his new home. Mykhailo is now gradually resuming his work and preparing new popular science projects, which his viewers and subscribers will be able to watch on his YouTube channel.
