Healthy Heart: fulfilling the child’s dream

13.03.2019

All her conscious life, six-year-old Margarita from Kharkiv was dreaming of ballet. In her dreams, she often imagined herself standing on pointe shoes and dancing dressed like a princess. But doctors found that the child has a heart defect. Because of it, the girl gets sick almost every month. In addition, the level of thrombocytes in Margarita became too low, and she now has hematomas all over her body.

Because of the coagulation disorder, an abdominal surgery would have been complicated by internal bleedings. Therefore, doctors recommended implanting a special device – occluder – to avoid precordial ribcage section. However, the cost of this implant was unbearable for the family, and the parents applied to the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for help. In the end, Margarita underwent a surgery under the Healthy Heart project.

‘In order to heal our child, we would have had to stop eating for several years. Thank you very much, Rinat Leonidovych! Your help is very valuable for us,’ the girl’s parents thanked Mr. Akhmetov.

Today, Margarita is ready to make her dream come true and become a ballerina. Almost 60 children received help from Rinat Akhmetov under the Healthy Heart project.
