Mariupol Unconquered: The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation Joined the Exhibition Dedicated to the City of Mary

22.08.2023

On 21 August, the exhibition Mariupol Unconquered opened in Kyiv. It is timed to the Independence Day of Ukraine and its purpose is to draw attention to the topic of Mariupol at the national level, as a city of independent and unconquered residents. The city that continues to live even beyond geographical boundaries — in its people. The partner of the event was the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, which has been helping Mariupol and its residents for many years.

The exhibition will continue in the capital’s Lavra Art Gallery until 21 September. It displays 50 works by artists from Mariupol and all over Ukraine, who support the City of Mary. The Foundation participated in the preparation and refurbishment of the premises for the event.

In addition, the Museum of Civilian Voices of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is also represented at the exhibition. It is the world’s largest archive of stories from Ukrainian civilians who suffered from the war. If desired, visitors of the exhibition will be able to share their stories that will be added to the Museum’s archive, which now has more than 80,000 stories told first-hand.

The project Mariupol Unconquered was launched in June 2022. Since then, the exhibition has been held at the diplomatic level in such European cities as Warsaw, Bremen, Vilnius, and Riga. The organizers of the exhibition are the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and the Department of Culture of Mariupol City Council.

Some events timed to the Independence Day are also planned at IAmMariupol centres, which have been supported by the Foundation for over a year now. IDPs from Mariupol can attend some creative art campaigns, exhibitions of drawings, master classes, thematic meetings, screenings of Ukrainian films, etc.
