Mariupol Defender Artem Dubyna Receives an Apartment from Rinat Akhmetov
Mariupol defender Artem Dubyna has received the keys to his own apartment under the “At Home” program, implemented by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation in partnership with the Heart of Azovstal project.
Artem Dubyna has served as a press officer with Azov since 2016. In the spring of 2022, he joined the defense of the city. In April 2022, during a firefight, he sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and survived by a miracle. After receiving first aid on site, Artem was evacuated to the hospital at Azovstal. He remained in a coma there for three days, and when he regained consciousness, he had partially lost his memory.
In May 2022, Artem was taken captive. He spent 2 years and 4 months in captivity. As a result of constant torture, his health deteriorated significantly.
After being released from captivity in 2024, the defender underwent rehabilitation. Recently, he returned to service with Azov. He continues to serve as a press officer, emphasizing that the struggle goes on. Receiving his own home became an important milestone in the recovery journey of the defender and his family after everything they had endured.
“We are grateful to the Heart of Azovstal Foundation and to Rinat Leonidovych Akhmetov for making our dream of having a home of our own come true. For any family, having a home of its own is the foundation on which a stable and strong family is built, providing the opportunity to live comfortably in one’s own home,” the serviceman says.
Natalia Yemchenko, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, and Kseniia Sukhova, CEO of the Foundation, came to congratulate Artem on his housewarming. They wished the defender and his family happiness in their new home.
“Housing for military personnel is unquestionably a priority for the state, for humanitarian initiatives, and for businesses committed to social responsibility. Because housing is the foundation that allows a serviceman, especially one who has suffered severe injuries, and his family to have solid ground beneath their feet, from which they can move forward,” Natalia Yemchenko emphasized.
“Together with Heart of Azovstal, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has already provided more than 300 apartments to the defenders of Mariupol and their families. And we are very happy to have the opportunity not only to meet a basic need, but also to accompany veterans on their journey, a journey that is part of the future of our heroes,” noted Kseniia Sukhova.
The “At Home” program provides housing for Mariupol defenders with Group I and Group II disabilities. Over the past three years, the defenders of Mariupol have already received more than 320 apartments from Rinat Akhmetov. For them, having a home of their own is not only a solution to everyday practical needs, but also an important part of the journey of post-traumatic growth — a return to a full and meaningful life after combat and captivity.
