"The war will end, and we will rejoice in life": the New Year Campaign of the “Rinat Akhmetov Foundation to Children” program restores faith in the future
At the end of December, the Kyiv History Museum came alive with the sounds of children's laughter, joyful exclamations, and warm emotions. The venue hosted an event organized as part of the traditional New Year Campaign of the "Rinat Akhmetov to Children" program. For 24 years, this initiative has reached over 1.2 million boys and girls from all over Ukraine.
The New Year Campaign is a vital component of the larger "Rinat Akhmetov to Children" program, which provides young Ukrainians with medical treatment, hearing aids, psychological and physical rehabilitation, and opportunities for personal growth and fulfilling their dreams. Over the years, the Foundation's assistance has benefited more than 5 million children.
This year's event demonstrated that even in the most challenging times, moments of joy and support are essential. Despite the hardships and losses brought on by the war, children were given a chance to immerse themselves in a fairytale-like atmosphere and feel cared for.
"I loved everything! I painted an ornament, made a candle. I hope the war will end, and we’ll rejoice in life. Victory will come, and we will celebrate it," shared 10-year-old Ihor from Sloviansk, unable to hide his emotions.
His peer Roman from Kherson also expressed his delight:
"It was so much fun here—games, crafts, painting. Thanks to the Foundation, I truly felt the spirit of the holiday."
The event was not only entertaining but also inspiring. A special highlight was the awards ceremony for the winners of the essay contest, "1,000 Days of War: My Way." This competition gave high school students a platform to share their experiences and insights.
Maksym, a 17-year-old from Kharkiv, revealed that his essay was deeply personal:
"I wrote about how my family and I lived in Kharkiv when a missile hit near our house. I tried to convey all the emotions—from fear to hope—but it’s hard to put into words. It wasn’t easy, but I wanted to show the world what it’s like when war rages in your hometown."
The contest provided a meaningful opportunity for students to articulate their thoughts on the tragedies they’ve endured while expressing hope for a brighter future. Their stories showcase incredible resilience and inspire others to hold on to faith and pursue victory, even in the darkest times.
Sofia, an 18-year-old from Kyiv, whose work won third place, reflected on the significance of her recognition:
"This award means a lot to me. It’s important that my essay will be read, that my thoughts and feelings will resonate with others. I wanted to convey one vital message: we must cherish one another. The most important things are our loved ones and a roof over our heads. We must support our families and stay united."
After the awards ceremony, children, parents, and event organizers participated in workshops, danced, enjoyed themselves, and shared their impressions. For many, it was an opportunity to feel part of a larger family that offers hope and lends a helping hand.
The "Rinat Akhmetov to Children" program is not just about providing support during challenging times. It also fosters development, creativity, and self-expression. It empowers children and teenagers to change their lives, share their stories with the world, and strive for a better future.
"Rinat Akhmetov to Children". Help that gives tomorrow.
