“This help is like a breath of fresh air”: Severely injured Tetiana from Kherson undergoes rehabilitation with support from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

27.11.2024

A month after the liberation of Kherson, Tetiana was at home when the city came under attack from Grad rocket systems. She was seriously injured, but managed to apply a tourniquet and call for an ambulance. Recently, she completed a rehabilitation program in Zakarpattia, funded by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, which helped her regain strength and recover from her injuries.

“Rehabilitation felt like a breath of fresh air,” says Tetiana. “I received top-quality medical care, had access to thermal and mineral pools, and underwent various treatments that were crucial for healing my injured leg. The staff were incredibly supportive, and the facilities were outstanding. I’m truly grateful to the Foundation for giving me this opportunity.”

Tetiana still carries several fragments of an enemy shell in her hand, and another piece caused multiple fractures in her foot. It took her months to learn how to walk again.

“I reached out to many organisations for help, but no one responded. Then, I saw the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation’s page on Facebook. They were offering assistance to civilians injured in the conflict, so I decided to contact them,” Tetiana recalls.

She also highlights how her emotional recovery was supported not just by medical treatments and daily swimming, but by equine therapy. It was her first time seeing horses up close, and she describes the tactile connection with them as an unforgettable and deeply moving experience.

Through its “Treatment and Rehabilitation of Wounded Adults” program, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has been helping Ukrainians affected by war-related injuries since 2014. This support includes medical treatment, rehabilitation, and psychological care. To date, the Foundation has assisted over 11,000 individuals.
