“This Is a Project About Care”: The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation Helped Equip Social Housing for Mariupol Residents in Dnipro

30.05.2025

A five-storey dormitory building for Mariupol residents was officially opened in Dnipro. At least 485 IDPs from Mariupol will receive social housing there. The first group of residents will move in as early as May; the rest are planned to be settled in June.

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation traditionally took responsibility for equipping the common areas: rest rooms, coworking spaces, kitchens, corridors, and lobbies. In particular, the Foundation provided the premises with furniture, laptops, and necessary household appliances: refrigerators, freezers, etc.

The Foundation also fully furnished children’s rooms and installed three playgrounds near the dormitory. Children will be able to play in a toy house, board games, puzzles, toys, play in a dry ball pool, read, draw, and have fun outdoors.

“We are glad to provide IDPs from Mariupol with everything necessary, especially children. Common spaces will help residents unite and create a strong community of Mariupol residents already in the new place. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation will continue to support Mariupol residents who were forced to leave their hometown. We continue working on equipping several dormitories in other regions of Ukraine,” emphasized Anatolii Yevtushenko, Director of Communications at the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

Among the guests at the solemn ceremony of the dormitory opening in Dnipro was also the Ambassador of France to Ukraine, Gaël Veyssière. He stressed that supporting IDPs and creating comfortable living conditions for them is an extremely useful endeavour during the full-scale war.

“For us, it is extremely important that this place becomes a home for IDPs. From today, here in Dnipro, these people have found their new housing, and I believe they will succeed in building a strong community here while the war continues,” noted the diplomat.

The opened dormitory became the third social housing facility in Dnipro within the framework of the “I am Mariupol. Housing” project, to which the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation contributed. Additionally, another dormitory was opened in Kyiv in 2024.

“Thank you all for implementing this meaningful large-scale project. This is a project about care, about how in such difficult times it is possible to unite efforts and help those in need. Thank you for making this project a reality,” noted Alla Bila, Deputy Head of the Dnipro District State Administration.

The “I am Mariupol. Housing” project was launched in 2023. It is implemented thanks to the support of the Government of France, the International Organization for Migration, and several state institutions of Ukraine. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is a systemic partner of “I am Mariupol,” in particular helping with equipping dormitories for IDPs.

The Foundation will continue to support the project: at the end of June, the equipping of a dormitory in Chernivtsi and in a number of other settlements in Ukraine is planned.

Since 2014, assistance from the Foundation, SCM businesses, and FC Shakhtar has reached over 18 million people.
