09.08.2023

Children under the age of seven years old, who are unable to fully hear, can receive free help from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, namely, ultra-modern hearing aids that are adjusted to the individual needs of a child. These are high-tech gadgets that return boys and girls to the world of sounds with all its diversity.

Doctors who work in the area of hearing prosthetics highly rate the devices that children received thanks to the Foundation.

“These devices are highly efficient and very modern. They can assess the acoustic circumstances and adapt to them. In addition, they suppress noise, while, at the same time, they single out human speech,” explains Galyna Ivashchenko, an audiologist at the Hearing Centre in Kyiv.

“The aids are very efficient. They support Bluetooth connection, which is a big advantage for use not only by the child, but also by his or her parents,” notes Natalya Petrenko, an audiologist and hearing prosthetist at the Hearing Centre.

The assistance with hearing aids in the framework of the project Rinat Akhmetov for Children. I Can Hear Now can be obtained by children with hearing impairment under the age of 7 who live or lived in territorial communities in the war zones, under occupation or encirclement. The mother of seven-year-old Anna Sulim from Zaporizhzhia region found out about the possibility of getting hearing aids just by chance: from a radio broadcast. Anna has the third degree of chronic sensorineural deafness, which is a severe hearing loss.

“When we were told that we were admitted to the program, we felt so happy! We are infinitely grateful. Thanks to the Foundation, we now have a healthy child who has a full-fledged life,” says the girl’s mother.

Zhenia Sokolova from Kherson is five years old. The girl does not know how to pronounce some words because she could not fully hear them for a long time. After receiving the hearing aids, she has been working with a speech therapist and getting ready for attending school.

“This is an invaluable help, especially during the wartime. You gave her the opportunity to hear, learn how to speak correctly, and take confident steps in her life,” says Zhenia’s mother.

The Foundation helped seven-year-old Tymofiy from Kharkiv to restore his hearing ability. When his city was under shelling attacks, the boy could not even hear the sounds of air strike alerts. After receiving the hearing aids, he now can hear well and learns to speak distinctly.

“I am very grateful to the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for responding to my request and helping my child in such a difficult moment as now,” says Tymofiy’s mother.

During the 17 years of its operation, the program Rinat Akhmetov for Children has supported more than five million children.
