“My Son Will Be Happy”: 3-Year-Old Yevhen from Dnipro Receives Hearing Aids Provided by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

26.06.2025

A little boy from Dnipro, Zhenia, was born with complications and fought for his life for several weeks. When the baby came out of the coma, the full-scale invasion began. Later, an examination showed that the child had significant hearing loss. His mother is raising him alone, so she cannot afford costly hearing aids. Currently, 3-year-old Yevhen has received state-of-the-art hearing aids from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, which adjust to the child’s needs.

“I want Zhenia to have as many good and happy moments in life as possible. Thanks to the aids, he will walk better – for now, his coordination is slightly impaired. Also, he will be able to go to kindergarten together with his peers and later to a regular school. I am very happy and very grateful for this opportunity,” says Kateryna, Yevhen’s mother, unable to hide her emotions.

According to Iryna Bannyk, audiologist and hearing care professional at the “Hearing Centre”, Yevhen can hear only very loud sounds. The aids will help him form a general acoustic picture and hear certain frequencies.

“Previously, Zhenia used a hearing aid, but only one. The ear is a paired organ, so if hearing loss is bilateral, the effect of using two aids is significantly greater, especially for a growing child. Thanks to the aids, Yevhen will begin to understand where the source of the sound is and its direction. It will be easier for him to navigate in space and to develop speech,” explains the medical specialist.

Assistance with hearing aids within the “Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Now I Can Hear” project can be received by children with hearing impairments under the age of 7 who live or lived in territorial communities in combat zones, under occupation, or under siege.
Overall, the “Rinat Akhmetov to Children” program has provided diverse support to about 6 million children. “Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Help that gives tomorrow”
