“Doctors are seeing progress”: Maryna from Zaporizhzhia, who was seriously injured, underwent a rehabilitation course from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

In winter 2024, Maryna came under fire in Zaporizhzhia. On that day, the enemy hit the city centre with KABs. Due to panic, the woman did not immediately realise she was injured as she tried to escape from the epicentre of the explosion. The final diagnosis came from the doctors – severe shrapnel wounds to her two legs. Such an injury requires a course of physical rehabilitation and psychological recovery, which Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provided.
“I was very happy when I learned that the Foundation would help me with my rehabilitation. There is fresh air, nature, no worries. Rehabilitation is very important for the body and especially for psychological health,” Maryna says about her rehabilitation course.
Snizhana Chobotarova, a general practitioner, said that the specialists had selected an individual rehabilitation programme for Maryna, taking into account her wishes for a speedy recovery.
“After the injury, her leg sensitivity was slightly reduced. That’s why her primary task here is to restore mobility and sensitivity of the limb. To do this, Maryna chooses procedures that are mainly aimed at improving circulation and blood flow. These are Nordic walking, swimming, and massage courses,” the doctor says.
Maryna already feels the positive dynamics of recovery. Her mobility is gradually improving. Now the woman dreams of finally putting on a dress or skirt and driving a car without pain.
“I am sure I will be able to walk normally soon. I am working on it now,” says Maryna.
