"I would like to come here again": A 51-year-old wounded soldier from the Kherson region undergoes a rehabilitation course from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation
Oleksandr is a resident of Sadove village in the Kherson region. In August last year, cluster munitions exploded a few metres away from him during a shelling. Oleksandr sustained a mine-blast injury, a perforating gunshot wound, an open fracture with displacement, and other injuries. Recently, the 51-year-old man underwent a rehabilitation course in Zakarpattia organised by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.
"The health resort has good treatment and great staff. I would like to come here again in the future. I would like to thank Rinat Akhmetov and all the people who work for the Foundation for their help; thank you very much," says Oleksandr.
He remembers that morning shelling well. "He was in a shelter during the shelling, and when it was over, he waited twenty minutes and went to the well because there was no water. At that moment, the shelling started again...
"They started bombarding us with cluster munitions. Fifteen of them passed through the yard. There were seven explosions within the radius. I didn't lose consciousness, but I didn't immediately understand the problem. Later, I saw that my arm, leg, and everything else was injured," the man recalls.
Neighbours called an ambulance, which took him to Kherson Regional Hospital. There, Oleksandr underwent surgery. The man still has problems with his health and well-being. He said his condition had improved after undergoing a rehabilitation course from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.
Within the framework of the programe "Treatment and Rehabilitation of Wounded Adults," the Foundation provides assistance to residents of Ukraine who have suffered from hostile shelling of residential areas: treatment, rehabilitation, psychological assistance, etc.
