During the press conference Anatolii Zabolotnyi, the Director of Rinat Akhmetov’s Foundation for Development of Ukraine, said: "For Ivano-Frankivsk region we have delivered and installed modern diagnostic equipment that costs $ 268,832, as well as for the Regional Tuberculosis and Pulmonology Centre costing $ 195,113. This will improve the tuberculosis laboratory diagnosis efficiency, which is one of the important points in fighting TB epidemic in Ukraine.

The equipment installed in Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Tuberculosis and Pulmonology Centre includes laboratory centrifuges, freezers, biological safety cabinets, thermostats, shielded germicidal emitters, as well as microscope slides, slide mailing cases, masks, sputum containers, Falcon centrifugation tubes. In addition, BACTEC MGIT 960 microbiological analyzer and its 6-month consumables were purchased and delivered to test the drug sensitivity.

"Having bought BACTEC analytical and diagnostic device, the Regional Tuberculosis and Pulmonology Centre now has a possibility of quick cultural confirmation of bacillary forms of tuberculosis, primarily drug resistant forms. This is a quality express test of Mycobacterium tuberculosis sensitivity to anti-TB drugs. Now it takes just 7 to 14 days to do it, compared with 3 months in the past. Owing to BACTEC unit, the anti-TB drugs, to which the patients’ Mycobacterium tuberculosis are sensitive, will be prescribed as soon as possible,"- Lubomyr Malofyi, the Director of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Tuberculosis and Pulmonology Centre, said.
