Rinat Akhmetov Foundation donates high-tech ultrasound equipment for diagnostics to OKHMATDYT HOSPITAL

12.08.2024

Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has handed over state-of-the-art ultrasound diagnostic equipment, which is essential for the neurosurgery department of the main children's hospital OKHMATDYT. This is the second stage of the transfer of aid to the hospital, which the Foundation was one of the first to support after the Russian missile attack.

‘’Supporting OKHMATDYT is extremely important for Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, because it is support for Ukrainian doctors who, despite the war, despite all the challenges and risks, save children's lives, it is support for the largest children's hospital in Ukraine,' said Andriy Mishchenko, Head of Programmes and Projects at the Foundation.

The ultrasound diagnostic system donated by the Foundation to the neurosurgery department of OKHMATDYT Hospital is equipped with advanced ultrasound data acquisition technology, a touch panel and a high-resolution widescreen monitor to enable highly qualified professionals at OKHMATDYT Hospital to carry out accurate diagnostics using modern, high-quality equipment.

"In the month since the missile attack, our hospital has performed more than 400 operations. The workload on all equipment is increasing because most of it, including ultrasound machines, was damaged. This is not our first positive experience of cooperation with Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. We hope that we will continue to do everything together to ensure that our hospital recovers as quickly as possible and our patients can receive medical care at the highest level,' said Serhiy Chernyshuk, Medical Director of OKHMATDYT National Specialized Children’s Hospital.

"Children who come to us undergo many examinations. Previously, in case of doubt, children were sent, for example, for a CT scan, which means radiation exposure, time, and sometimes anaesthesia. The new, high-quality ultrasound machine helps determine whether additional examinations are needed or not. The device donated by Rinat Akhmetov Foundation will speed up our diagnostics and allow us to perform all examinations as quickly and efficiently as possible. We selected exactly those sensors that are necessary for infants, sensors for neurosurgery, plus standard examinations that patients need to prepare for surgery,' said Pavlo Plavskyi, Head of the Paediatric Neurosurgery Department at the OKHMATDYT National Specialized Children’s Hospital.

As part of the first stage of assistance, on the third day after the terrorist attack, the Foundation handed over two equipped resuscitation ambulances to OKHMATDYT to save children, and these ambulances are already responding to calls.

In close cooperation with the management of OKHMATDYT, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation continues to identify the needs of the medical institution to recover from the Russian attack. The aid will continue to be transferred in stages.

This is not the first time the Foundation has helped Ukrainian medical institutions in crisis situations. In 2019, it implemented the 200 Ambulances for Ukraine project, the largest private charity project in the field of emergency medicine since independence.

And during the coronavirus pandemic, a key element of Rinat Akhmetov Foundation's assistance to the country was the purchase of more than 200 state-of-the-art lung ventilators for state hospitals, which the Foundation managed to purchase and bring to Ukraine despite the shortage of high-tech medical equipment in the world. Ukrainian medicine needed this equipment the most.

Since 2014, the Foundation has provided treatment and rehabilitation assistance to more than 11,000 Ukrainians.
