The aid continues: 19 years of work of Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

15.07.2024

Nineteen years ago, on July 15, 2005, Rinat Akhmetov founded the Foundation, which has since focused its activities on providing comprehensive assistance to the most vulnerable people in Ukraine. Russian aggression, the coronavirus pandemic, a full-scale invasion - in the most difficult times for the country, the Foundation has remained and remains close to those in need, having implemented about 70 programmes and projects in the social sphere.

After the outbreak of war in 2014, the Foundation launched an extensive assistance programme and has been supporting millions of Ukrainians affected by the war for the eleventh year in a row: it provides food and medicines, treatment and rehabilitation after injuries and traumas, comprehensive support for children, psychological assistance, etc. The Foundation does not stand aside from the most urgent needs of Ukrainians.

Among the most recent challenges was helping the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital, which was damaged after a Russian missile attack: the Foundation promptly provided the hospital with modern ambulances, which are essential for doctors to save children, the most precious treasure and the future of Ukraine.

As part of Rinat Akhmetov Saving Lives programme, the Foundation donated to the people of Ukraine:

  •  over 13 million food packages;
  •  about 800 thousand medical kits and equipment;
  •  120 thousand tablets for water disinfection;
  •  about 90 thousand hygiene kits;
  •  more than 73 thousand people received psychological assistance from the Foundation;
  •  almost 51 thousand people received targeted assistance.

The Foundation provides rehabilitation for adults and children after war-related injuries. Since 2014, the Foundation has provided treatment and rehabilitation assistance to more than 11,000 Ukrainians.

Last year, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation joined the pilot project of social housing for Mariupol residents, I’Mariupol housing. The first phase of apartments is already home to 127 IDPs. Another renovated multi-storey building will be completed this summer and 202 families will move in. The Foundation is the main Ukrainian donor of this project and has taken over the arrangement of common areas and a playground. The cooperation is ongoing.

As part of Rinat Akhmetov to Children programme:

  • in total, more than 5 million children have received comprehensive support from the Foundation;
  • more than 1 million children received gifts and greetings as part of the Foundation's New Year's Campaign;
  • more than 10 thousand children found new families as part of the "No to Orphanhood!" project;
  • almost 5,000 children had a rest and received psychological assistance as part of Peaceful Recreation for Children of Ukraine project;
  • 230 children received modern hearing aids as part of I Can Hear Now project;
  • 154 children were rehabilitated after war injuries and traumas in Rehabilitation of Injured Children project.

The Museum of Civilian Voices by Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has become the primary source of the truth about the war, a chronicle of the tragedy the country has been experiencing since 2014, and a large-scale portal that preserves valuable components of Ukraine's national memory. It is not only a crucial archive with more than 110,000 first-hand accounts, but also the basis for a fair condemnation of war crimes. It is support for survivors who want to tell their truth out loud. It is the testimony needed to identify crimes and bring justice.

More than 30 of the Foundation's healthcare projects have reached a national scale, including Fighting COVID-19 in Ukraine, 200 Ambulances for Ukraine, Cancer is Curable, and Stop Tuberculosis in Ukraine, which have helped millions of people to get the necessary examinations and recover.

For 19 years, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has been helping people every day. The work continues. If you or your loved ones need help, please call the Foundation's toll-free hotline 0 (800) 509 001 or write to the Foundation's messenger https://m.me/AkhmetovFDU.
