“My daughter will be able to go to the dance: 4-year-old Lolita from Kryvyi Rih received hearing aids provided by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

06.01.2025

Lolita was born a healthy child, but over time she stopped responding to some sounds. The examination confirmed: the girl was losing her hearing. Recently, 4-year-old Lolita from Kryvyi Rih received state-of-the-art hearing aids from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, which are adapted to the child’s needs.

“We are very grateful to the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for its significant assistance, for our family this is a significant amount. Ahead are classes with a speech therapist and a speech pathologist so that Lolita can learn to pronounce all the sounds and speak well. And we will also take her to a dance, something we never even dreamed of before. We will also come for a check-up once a year”, says Ihor, Lolita’s father.

Iryna Bannyk, audiologist, hearing aid specialist at the Hearing Centre, explains: medicine does not yet treat diagnoses like Lolita’s. The only way to help is to choose hearing aids that compensate for the person’s lost frequencies.

“Lolita only hears loud sounds. Up close, she can hear speech, but she can’t make out the sounds or understand it. We selected digital hearing aids for Lolita that are adjusted based on the results of the audiogram. Owing to this, her speech will develop and her hearing will improve,” explains Iryna.

And she adds that the Centre has been cooperating with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for a long time.

“Thank to the Foundation for supporting families. The speed of assistance in such situations is important so that the child does not lose time for development”, says the specialist.

Assistance with hearing aids as part of the “Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Now I Can Hear” project can be received by children with hearing impairments under the age of 7 who live or have lived in territorial communities in zones of combat, occupation, or encirclement. More than 230 children have already received such assistance from the Foundation. Rinat Akhmetov to Children. Help that gives tomorrow.
