Children's Day: more than 5 million Ukrainian children have already received help from Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

01.06.2024

International Children's Day is not just a date on the calendar for Ukrainians. Ukraine's most precious treasure, children and teenagers, are going through the brutal experience of war and are in dire need of support. Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has been taking care of children for almost two decades, paying great attention to their needs and interests, including in wartime. Rinat Akhmetov to Children! charity initiative has already reached more than 5 million children.

As part of this programme, the Foundation implements a number of projects in various areas of assistance: educational, health, rehabilitation, psychological and motivational projects, festive events, combating orphanhood, etc.

The Foundation is the only one in Ukraine that systematically and on a large scale helps children affected by the war. As part of the Rehabilitation of Injured Children project, boys and girls undergo rehabilitation in the best health resorts in Ukraine. Children under the age of 18 who have been physically injured or wounded in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion are invited to participate in physical and psychological rehabilitation. 149 successful courses have already been held.

Since 2018, the Rinat Akhmetov to Children. I Can Hear Now project helps boys and girls under 7 with hearing impairments who live or have lived in communities in the areas of hostilities, occupation or encirclement. Thanks to this initiative, 240 young Ukrainians have received state-of-the-art, highly sensitive hearing aids that are adjusted to the individual characteristics and needs of the child.

Nearly 5,000 children affected by the war received recreation, rehabilitation and psychological assistance at a children's camp in the Transcarpathian region as part of the Peaceful Recreation for Children of Ukraine project in the format of Blogger Camp shifts. During each shift, participants learn new knowledge and skills, engage in creative activities and take part in masterclasses from professionals.

Since 2007, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has been actively working to prevent child abandonment by promoting family-based forms of care for orphans and children left without parental care. Thanks to the Rinat Akhmetov to Children. No to Orphanhood! programme and the portal of the same name, more than 10,000 children from orphanages have found new families.

The Foundation systematically assists teenagers in choosing their life path: it provides useful knowledge and advice on finding motivation for self-development, helps them find their dream profession and develop self-confidence. These include motivational meetings on the topic “Your Superpower!”, the educational online series “Your Superprofession”, and the popular telegram channel “Your Superpower”, with useful information on self-development, education, motivation and psychological support.

Last year, the My Ukraine nationwide essay contest participants sent almost four thousand creative works to The Museum of Civilian Voices by Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, which has already collected more than 100,000 stories from Ukrainians about their wartime experience. Many of the essays have become part of the Museum and can be found at https://civilvoicesmuseum.org/. In total, the Museum has more than 20,000 children's stories about the war.

Rinat Akhmetov to Children! All-Ukrainian New Year's campaign has been providing children with New Year's and Christmas holidays for over two decades. Over this time, more than 1.2 million children have received greetings and gifts. The campaign includes the “Call to St Nicholas” and “Letter to St Nicholas” contests, where children from all over Ukraine have the opportunity to call the fairy-tale wizard, share their stories or dreams and win interesting gifts. Last winter, more than 9,500 letters and almost 2,000 calls were received for the competitions.
