“I will walk!”: Rinat Akhmetov Foundation helped treat a seriously injured resident of Toretsk

In the summer of 2024, Oleksandr set off from Dnipro to his native Toretsk to evacuate his parents. On the way, his car came under missile shelling. The man sustained an open fracture of the femur and an injury to his arm. In hospital, doctors performed an urgent operation and fitted a plate on his leg. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation helped Oleksandr by financing the materials needed for his treatment.
“The Foundation agreed to help us. They paid for the plate, which was very expensive. I can say from the bottom of my heart: I am very grateful to everyone for such help”, says Anastasiia, Oleksandr’s wife.
The family now lives in Kamianske in rented accommodation. Their home remained in Toretsk, destroyed by the war, as did all their plans for the future. Oleksandr has already undergone several complicated surgeries, and he still has expensive rehabilitation ahead of him, which doctors predict will take at least five years. Despite the difficulties, the man does not lose hope for recovery and even tries to joke.
“My left leg is slightly shorter than the right, but I will walk. I’m in a good mood! I have a leg – that’s good”, he smiles.
As part of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation’s “Treatment and Rehabilitation for Wounded Adults” project, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provides assistance to civilians in Ukraine who have suffered from shelling. The Foundation has already provided treatment and rehabilitation to over 11 thousand Ukrainians.
