How are the coaches for «Mentoring» project being trained?

25.07.2016

The team of coaches from "Mentoring" project of Rinat Akhmetov Foundation took a four-day training on preparation of mentors for orphans and children deprived of parental care. The goal of the course is to train the coaches who will educate the future mentors.

The training, held by the specialists from "One Hope" ("Odna Nadiya") non-governmental organization, brought together two project teams of psychologists and social workers from Mariupol and Sviatohirsk. Mentors will be working with orphans in these towns. The coaches studied peculiarities of orphans' socialization in group institutions, their needs, psychology and the impact caused by the lack of parental education. Special attention was paid to work with children having special needs.

"The conducted training is one of the most important stages in the systematic preparation and work of the mentors. And this technique will be passed over by the coaches at the local level, helping to acquire and develop the necessary skills. Psychologists and social workers of the project will accompany the mentors throughout their work with children", – Yevheniia Rzaieva, the Head of "Say No to Orphanhood" program, shared.

"Mentoring" project of Rinat Akhmetov Foundation was launched in 2016. The main goal is to help orphans to get ready to an independent life after they leave the orphanage. Development of their potential, determination of life goals, formation of human relations, cultural and moral values. A mentor would be a great help there – an adult with life experience who voluntarily agrees to teach a child and help to start a new life outside the institution.
