Mariupol Residents in Dnipro Received Keys to Social Housing from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

18.06.2025

In Dnipro, a ceremonial handover of keys took place for a new social housing facility for Mariupol residents. The first 62 families of IDPs have already moved into the comfortable studio apartments. In total, another 192 families will soon be able to settle in the new social housing.

“Being involved in such important social projects is our obligation and responsibility as a large business. Step by step, more and more people are receiving housing, even if temporary, it is their own. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, SCM, and Metinvest are doing their best to make this housing as comfortable as possible. We promised to support Ukrainian Mariupol – and we are doing it, through the community,” emphasised Nataliia Yemchenko, Director of Communications at SCM and member of the Supervisory Board of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

The new social facility is a five-storey dormitory building equipped as part of the “I am Mariupol. Housing” project.  The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has traditionally taken on the furnishing of common areas: lounges, coworking spaces, kitchens, corridors, and lobbies. The premises are equipped with furniture, laptops, and household appliances – refrigerators, freezers, etc.

The new residents say they are delighted with such cosy and convenient housing. For many, this is their first stable accommodation since evacuation. People are convinced that such support will help them get back on their feet.

A couple from Mariupol shares, “We are very satisfied. All that remains of our home in Mariupol is the registration – instead of a house, there is now an empty space. Rent and utilities are a heavy burden for us, pensioners. And now… it is like a dormitory, but it feels like our own home. We thank everyone who made this possible!”

For the youngest residents, the Foundation has also set up three playgrounds near the building and children’s rooms with a dry pool, playhouses, books, board games, puzzles, and creative spaces.

“Everything is great, new, cosy. We already want to unpack our things, not live constantly out of suitcases. We are very grateful for this opportunity. There are still many people in need of housing, so it is good that such projects are being implemented,” shares Olena, who left Mariupol with her child in spring 2022.

This dormitory is already the third social housing facility in Dnipro within the “I am Mariupol. Housing” project supported by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. Another such building was opened in Kyiv in 2024.

The Foundation will continue to support the project: the implementation of the next such initiatives in Chernivtsi and Zaporizhzhia has already been confirmed.

The “I am Mariupol. Housing” project was launched in 2023. It is implemented with the support of the Government of France, the International Organization for Migration, and Ukrainian state institutions. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is a permanent partner of the initiative, in particular in equipping housing for IDPs.

Since 2014, assistance from the Foundation, SCM businesses, and FC Shakhtar has reached over 18 million people.
