“This Was My Very Big Dream”: 10-Year-Old Nazar From Bakhmut Received a Laptop From the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

Nazar is ten years old. The enemy destroyed his hometown, Bakhmut, and the family had to flee with only two bags. Everything else burned, in particular, Nazar’s numerous award certificates for prize-winning places in checkers tournaments and for victories at school Olympic contests. Now the boy and his mother live in Kremenchuk. He has only an old smartphone as a device for online classes. The boy wrote to the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation about his dream of getting a tablet or a laptop. This is how the New Year’s miracle began.

“My letter was about how the war started, how I was leaving Bakhmut, and how scary it was. I was most frightened when shelling attacks were close by. From the toys I had, I took with me only my Rubik’s cubes... I would like to forget what war is, so that it never happens, so that children, adults, and animals never suffer. This is the scariest thing that can happen in life,” the boy shares his thoughts.

Eleonora, the boy’s mother, was in Bakhmut together with Nazar until the end of May 2022. Then they managed to move out, leaving behind everything they had... In a new place, her son began to meet new people, communicate a lot, and do some sports right way, as life goes on, after all. One day, the woman learned about the Foundation from Facebook, and Nazar himself decided to write a letter.

On the holidays’ eve, dreams must come true. That is why the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation presented Nazar with a laptop so that the talented boy could study, play, and develop all his talents.

“I really want to thank you for reading my letter. It was a very big dream of mine... I lack the words that would describe these emotions!” Nazar admits, smiling happily. 

The New Year Campaign Rinat Akhmetov for Children is a tradition of kindness and help, spanning more than 20 years, in which more than a million boys and girls have taken part. In December, in the framework of the Campaign, the Foundation conducts various festive and educational activities and events for children who need support the most. In particular, it congratulates children from orphanages, family-type children’s homes, and adoptive families on the New Year’s holidays.

Thanks to the Campaign, children do not lose faith in miracles and find additional opportunities to develop their abilities and talents.
