“You have to keep living”: Hennadii from Kherson region undergoes rehabilitation course by Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

27.01.2025

Hennadii, a resident of one of the de-occupied villages in Kherson region, stepped on an enemy mine. In the first minutes he managed to put a belt on his leg instead of a tourniquet. Now he is learning to live with the prosthesis. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provided Hennadii with a course of physical rehabilitation and psychological recovery in a sanatorium in Zakarpattia.

“This is a huge benefit for people, thank you for doing such a great job and helping to rehabilitate war victims. Even a temporary change of scenery after what happened is very important,” says Hennadii.

He adds that in the first moments after being wounded, when he realised what had happened, he thought he had to keep living.

“Hennadii was treated for a mine-blast injury. His condition has improved. He received physiotherapy treatment, mud therapy, went to the mineral and thermal pools and had psychological counselling. There were also procedures to improve the state of the nervous and immune systems,” says Oksana Fridmanska, a general practitioner at the sanatorium.

As part of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation’s “Treatment and Rehabilitation for Wounded Adults” programme, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provides assistance to civilians in Ukraine who have suffered from shelling: this includes treatment, rehabilitation and psychological assistance. The Foundation has already provided treatment and rehabilitation to over 11 thousand Ukrainians.
