Rinat Akhmetov Gifts an Apartment to Mykhailo Vysotskyi: Scientist Returns to Research After Losing His Home in a russian Strike
Mykhailo Vysotskyi, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, Associate Professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and science communicator, has received the keys to a new apartment in Kyiv. The decision was made personally by Rinat Akhmetov, founder of the Charitable Foundation and President of Shakhtar Football Club, after learning about the scientist’s tragedy.
“In July, his apartment was completely destroyed by fire as a result of a russian attack. This tragedy drew the attention of Mr. Akhmetov, who decided to purchase an apartment for Mr. Mykhailo. Only a month has passed since this great tragedy occurred, and today Mykhailo already has a new apartment. An apartment is a foundation, and for Mykhailo, it is an opportunity to continue his scientific work,” said Natalia Yemchenko, Chair of the Foundation’s Supervisory Board.
The scientist thanked Rinat Akhmetov and the Foundation for the assistance that enabled him to return to normal life and continue his work.
“I am very pleased to receive such a completely unexpected gift. To be honest, a month ago I could not even imagine that just four and a half weeks would pass and, from a person who had lost absolutely everything, I would become the owner of such a wonderful apartment. I am very grateful that the Foundation and Rinat Akhmetov responded to my plight,” says Mykhailo Vysotskyi.
Due to the loss of his home and equipment as a result of the russian strike, the scientist was also forced to suspend his educational activities and work on his personal YouTube channel. However, he will now be able to return to the work he loves. Along with his new apartment, Mykhailo received modern equipment as a gift, which will help him return to promoting science.
“Today, we gifted a powerful computer specifically so that Mykhailo could return to his YouTube channel and science communication as soon as possible. People who have followed his work all this time are eagerly awaiting his return. Unfortunately, after the strike, nothing survived in his apartment, not even his clothes. Mykhailo has to start his life all over again. But today, here in this apartment, he has everything he needs to start a new life,” said Ksenia Sukhova, General Director of the Foundation.
Thanks to his new home, Mykhailo’s life is gradually returning to its usual rhythm. The new apartment will provide his family with comfort, peace, and a sense of security. The home is fully furnished with modern furniture and household appliances. Importantly, it also has separate workspaces for Mykhailo.
“In the future, I would like to give back to society for this support: to record many new and interesting lectures, teach children and students something new, and show them how amazing and fascinating our world is. To make them fall in love with science. And now I will be able to do this because I already have all the necessary conditions – a place where I can work and record new videos,” says Mykhailo.
Natalia Yemchenko noted that for the Foundation and Rinat Akhmetov personally, supporting the scientist is a way of expressing gratitude to people who, through their work, contribute to Ukraine’s development and shape its intellectual potential.
