Rehabilitation of injured Donbas children: 25 families are already sent to health resorts. How to file an application?

20.05.2016

The applications for rehabilitation of Donbas children, who were injured during hostilities, are still being accepted by Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center. Assistance is provided under the Center's special program called 'Rehabilitation of Injured Children».

"As of today, 14 families have already taken the course, 11 more left for health resorts in Sloviansk and Zaporizhia and staying there since May 25. We form an individual schedule for each child, taking into account summer holidays. We select a health resort depending on the injuries. We mostly send families with several injured children for rehabilitation. The course for one child takes 21 days. We continue accepting applications until June 1 and planning to provide health improvement for children during summer holidays and fall", ‒ Iryna Temerko, the Head of 'Targeted Assistance' direction at the Humanitarian Center, shares.

In late May Zaporizhia health resort will host four-year-old Milana from Mariupol. The little girl got extremely severe injuries and lost her mom during the city shelling in January 2015. After the treatment in Dnipropetrovsk and Kyiv the girl was put leg prosthesis. The child and her grandmother had the Humanitarian Center's psychologist working with them for a long time. The health resort will provide Milana with the necessary set of procedures to strengthen the musculoskeletal system and get used to the prosthesis. Some procedures will help the girl to stabilize her nervous system condition.

As of today there are 163 children injured due to hostilities registered in the database of Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center. Half of them need rehabilitation.

The Center helps with rehabilitation by the following directions:

  • treatment of neurological diseases;
  • recovery of musculoskeletal system;
  • rehabilitative treatment of internal organs;
  • correction of state after operative long-term treatment;
  • arthroplasty;
  • limb and eye prostheses;
  • adaptive rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation course for a child lasts 21 days and takes place in one of rehabilitation centres of Zaporizhia, Berdiansk, Sloviansk or Odesa. To sign up for a treatment course under "Rehabilitation of Injured Children" program it is necessary to make a call before June 1, 2016 to the Humanitarian Center's hotline: 0800 509 001.
