The Grant Agreement for Phase 2 is signed with the Global Fund under Round 9 "Tuberculosis" component

September 16, 2013, during the working meeting of the official Ukrainian delegation to the sixty-third session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe, held in Turkey, the Health Minister Raiisa Bohatyriova met with the Regional Director's special representative on M/XDR-TB at WHO/Europe, Hans Kluge, and the Regional Manager in Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Ukraine Portfolio Manager, Nicolas Cantau.

The issues of cooperation in combating TB in Ukraine were raised, especially the need to reform the organization of inpatient and outpatient TB service provision.

During the meeting a very important document for Ukraine: Grant Agreement for the implementation of the second phase of the Global Fund grant under Round 9, "Tuberculosis" component was signed. This grant realization provides Ukraine with funds for the TB integrated services implementation, the treatment options expansion, the monitoring and evaluation activities provision to overcome the disease, as well as the promotion of human resources development in TB service. The responsibility for the effective use of grant funds is taken over by the state, ensuring the strengthening of the governmental leadership in TB counteraction as well.

 

From the Ukrainian part, the agreement was signed by Professor Nataliia Nizova, the Director of SI "Ukrainian Center for Diseases Control at MoH Ukraine". The late has become the Principal Recipient for Phase 2 and, thus, has taken over the responsibility in terms of grant implementation from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for "Development of Ukraine" being the Principal Recipient for Phase 1.
