On the firing: humanitarian aid for Marinka residents

10.03.2017

Another issuance of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center's aid took place in Marinka on March 9 and 10. During these two days 1,555 people received their food packages.

While the issuance of humanitarian aid is blocked in non-government-controlled areas of Donetsk region, Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center continues issuing survival kits in government-controlled areas and in the "grey zone".

"Marinka is located right near the firing line. For the third year people live under continuous shelling. Trying to run away from war, many people left their homes. However, a lot of local residents have already come back. Living away from home is difficult financially and emotionally for them", – Natalya Baryshpolska, the Head of "Humanitarian Aid" direction at Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center, shares.

Over the entire period of the Humanitarian Center's operation in Marinka they issued 34,948 food packages. The aid was received by the most vulnerable categories of population – elderly and disabled people, families with many children, single parents.

Among those receiving aid from Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian is Antonina Bondar, a pensioner. In autumn 2016, being unable to withstand constant shelling, the woman left Marinka and settled in Novomykhailivka, in the House of Veterans. But when the family ran out of money to provide Antonina's stay in the boarding house, the woman had to return home. She regularly received the Humanitarian Center's aid both in Novomykhailivka and her hometown Marinka.

Altogether, over 2.5 years, Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center issued 11.6 million food packages on both sides of the contact line. The Humanitarian Center's aid saved more than one million people.
