“We felt support at every step”: Rinat Akhmetov Foundation helped treat a seriously injured resident of Kherson region

After the explosion, Valerii’s wife found him wounded on a garden swing. A shell fragment hit him in the head and damaged the area responsible for the musculoskeletal system. Rinat Akhmetov Foundation helped in Valerii’s treatment by financing an individual titanium plate for an important surgical intervention.
“After being injured, the man needed surgery to close his skull injury. We were financially exhausted at the time and I was looking for help. That’s how I found the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. I have only positive impressions, I felt support at every step”, says Liubov. Valerii still finds it hard to talk.
At the worst moment, Liubov and the children were at home, while Valerii was in the yard. She immediately called an ambulance, but the paramedics did not arrive immediately – they also came under enemy attack. Then came a long treatment in the neurosurgical department in Mykolaiv.
“One of my dreams came true – my husband survived. Now he is getting better. He is already moving on his own, working on his pronunciation, taking online lessons with our child and learning to formulate his thoughts again. And he really wants to go back to work”, says Liubov.
As part of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation’s “Treatment and Rehabilitation for Wounded Adults” project, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provides assistance to civilians in Ukraine who have suffered from shelling. The Foundation has already provided treatment and rehabilitation to over 11 thousand Ukrainians.
