«We were crying - our child heard the sounds!" Daria from the Kharkiv region received modern hearing aids from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

15.01.2024

Daryna was hard of hearing from an early age, and after surviving the occupation of the Kharkiv region and the tragic death of her father, her hearing became even worse. The girl dreamed of hearing the world, but her grandparents, who are raising two grandchildren alone, could not afford hearing aids for the child. When Daryna learned about the New Year's competition "Letter to St Nicholas" from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, she decided to write to the fairy-tale wizard. And she received state-of-the-art hearing aids from the Foundation that can be adjusted to the child's specific needs.

"I asked St Nicholas to give me a hearing aid. It was my dream. Thank you. I am very happy that it has come true!" the girl admits.
At the beginning of January, Daria was brought to the Hearing Centre in Kharkiv, where specialists were waiting for her and fitted her with the most suitable hearing aids.

"You know, we were crying... Our child heard the sounds! This is a very, very big joy. This help is very important for us. We are grateful to Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for saving our granddaughter," says grandmother Olha Mykolayivna, unable to contain her emotions.

Alina Solovyova, an audiologist and hearing prosthetist at the Hearing Centre, explains that the third degree of sensorineural hearing loss is a disorder in which a person cannot hear, and his/her auditory nerve is affected.

"Daryna needs bilateral hearing prosthetics. We gave her the devices: the girl is happy, hears everything, and understands speech perfectly. We are grateful to the Foundation for such gifts to children," the doctor said.

Hearing assistance under the "Rinat Akhmetov for Children. Now I Can Hear" project can be provided to children under 7 with hearing impairments who live or have lived in territorial communities in hostilities, occupation, or encirclement areas.

If there is a child among your relatives or friends who needs hearing prosthetics, please call the toll-free hotline 0 (800) 509 001 (from Monday to Friday) or write to the Foundation's messenger http://m.me/AkhmetovFDU
