“I dream of walking independently”: seriously wounded Andrii received rehabilitation from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

17.04.2026

In April 2025, Andrii suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and a brain contusion as a result of a missile attack on Kyiv. Recently, the young man completed a course of physical rehabilitation organized by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation at a sanatorium in Zakarpattia.

“The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation truly helped me a lot and gave me the opportunity to undergo rehabilitation in Morshyn,” Andrii says.

At present, he cannot walk independently, moves with the help of crutches, has limited mobility, and his muscles remain under constant tension. Andrii has already undergone several complex surgeries and requires long-term treatment. The rehabilitation he is receiving with the Foundation’s support is aimed at restoring mobility and helping him regain independence.

“I am very grateful to Rinat Akhmetov for helping people like this recover and become full-fledged citizens of Ukraine again,” says Mariia, Andrii’s mother.

A long road to recovery still lies ahead. Andrii dreams of returning to an active life and going back to work again.

Within the framework of the project “Treatment and Rehabilitation for Wounded Adults,” the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provides assistance to civilians in Ukraine affected by shelling. The Foundation has already helped provide treatment and rehabilitation to more than 11,000 Ukrainians.
