‘When will the holiday come again?’: children from Mariupol received New Year's greetings from Rinat Akhmetov Foundation in Cherkasy

16.12.2024

Appreciating every moment of life is one of the lessons of war. That is why the New Year's campaign of Rinat Akhmetov Foundation continues even in the most difficult times. Recently, displaced children in Cherkasy received positive emotions. A holiday for them was held at the local I'Mariupol support centre.

‘It's great here, thank you very much for this opportunity. My boys are somewhere in the hall, enjoying the bubbles. Nowadays, children lack live contact with their peers,’ says Anna, a mother of two boys.

The New Year's event, part of the large-scale Rinat Akhmetov to Children programme, has been held for 24 years in a row. Similar events are being held all over Ukraine: in family-type orphanages, boarding schools, I'Mariupol humanitarian hubs for IDPs, etc.

‘I liked it. I received a gift from an elf. It can be worn as a backpack. I want a lot of sweets in the New Year,’ says 5-year-old Kira.

For her peer, Dmytro, the most vivid experience was standing in a soap bubble and catching giant balls. He didn't want to talk about his dream - it's a secret.

The words that we hear from many children are simple: ‘When will the party come again?’

‘All the initiatives of the programme have one goal: to help every child feel that they are unique, that they are supported and that tomorrow will be happy,’ said Alina Klimchyk, Project Manager of  Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

The New Year's campaign is part of the large-scale Rinat Akhmetov to Children programme, which provides comprehensive assistance to children in Ukraine. This is one of the priority areas of assistance of Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. Over the years, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has supported more than 5 million children.

Thanks to Rinat Akhmetov to Children programme, young Ukrainians receive medical treatment, hearing aids, undergo psychological and physical rehabilitation, and have the opportunity to develop and fulfil their dreams.
