"Thank you for the medicine and attention to people": Donetsk region resident wounded in shelling receives medicine from Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

15.01.2024

Olena is from the frontline town of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region. In September 2023, a Russian missile hit the local market. Many people died, and she was severely injured. Olena Eduardivna turned to the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for help. Currently, the woman has been provided with medicine and medical equipment to help her recover.

"I received the parcel... I am very grateful to the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for their attention to people who cannot afford medicine," says Olena.

...It was an ordinary day. Peaceful people - women with children and the elderly - came to the market to buy food. In an instant, Olena lost consciousness. When she woke up, she saw that her clothes had been bloodied.

"It was really frightening. The roof was falling off; the fire engulfed the shop. I saw what happened to people... I remember a soldier came up to me. He did not dare to lift me up - the bone from my leg was visible. Then paramedics loaded me into an ambulance..." she says.

As a result of the explosion, the woman's lungs and legs were damaged. In addition, a piece of shrapnel got into her stomach. Surgeries are behind her, and no less lengthy treatment is ahead...

Olena Eduardivna received help as part of the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Wounded Adults project. This is one of the components of the Rinat Akhmetov Saving Lives programme.

The Foundation provides assistance to Ukrainian residents affected by the shelling of residential areas, including treatment, rehabilitation, psychological help, etc.
