The documentary project "Diaries of Civilians: Voices of Survivors and Those Who Did Not Survive" will open in Kyiv

25.10.2024

The Museum of Civilian Voices by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation presents the documentary project "Diaries of Civilians: Voices of Survivors and Those Who Did Not Survive".

As part of the presentation, there will be a panel discussion titled "Diaries as Ego-Documents of War".

Speakers of the discussion:

  • Anatolii Khromov, Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine
  • Diana Popova, CEO of the Museum of the History of Kyiv
  • Nataliia Yemchenko, Member of the Supervisory Board of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

The event will be moderated by Oleksii Ananov, a journalist, presenter, and theater producer.

The discussion will explore the significance of ego-documents in the context of war and their role as records created by both professionals and ordinary people who document wartime events.

Additionally, the program will include readings of diary excerpts from the heroes of the Museum of Civilian Voices. The readings will be performed by actress and TV presenter Rimma Zyubina and actor and presenter Oleksii Sukhanov.

The museum space is based on two real stories from Mariupol, donated to the Museum of Civilian Voices of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. These are the stories of Kateryna Savenko and Volodymyr Velychko. Stories of tragedy and survival. Stories with different endings — they tell everything as it was, directly from the first-hand accounts.

The museum has been collecting, preserving, and sharing testimonies of civilians about their experiences during the war in Ukraine since 2014. It is the largest archive of such stories of Ukrainians in the world, with over 120,000 testimonies.

We invite you to attend the opening on October 30, 2024, at 16:30 (4:30 pm), on the first floor of the Museum of the History of Kyiv (7 Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street).
