“In a few days I regained sensitivity in my leg”: Nataliia from Kurakhove, seriously injured, undergoes rehabilitation course from Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

22.10.2024

When Russian troops once again brutally shelled Kurakhove in Donetsk region on August 24 this year, Nataliia and her daughter Sofiia were hiding between two walls in their home. One of the shells hit their house. The mother and daughter were seriously injured and wounded. They recently underwent a course of physical rehabilitation and psychological recovery at a health resort in the Transcarpathian region, provided by Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.

“Thanks to the Foundation's support, we are undergoing rehabilitation in a medical facility where they help us recover. The atmosphere here is very good, we are well taken care of, and there is also a wonderful nature. The treatments help: my right leg didn't feel anything at all when I walked down the stairs, and now just four days have passed and I can already feel it. And it's just very good to have a moral rest,” says Nataliia.
The woman says that her family has been familiar with Rinat Akhmetov Foundation since 2020, when Sofiia participated in projects for children and teenagers. And in 2024, the 16-year-old girl became a participant in the Foundation's Blogger Camp for children affected by war. Now the family continues its journey to restore health and psycho-emotional well-being.

“It is very important for us to help people affected by the war. Most of them have suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, so in addition to physiotherapy and general health procedures, we have a psychologist who helps improve the condition of people who have suffered from trauma as a result of military operations.  Nataliia has completed a course of inpatient treatment and is now undergoing rehabilitation. She goes to the swimming pool, undergoes mud therapy, physiotherapy, massages, aromatherapy, and receives psychological help. During this time, her condition has improved,” emphasizes Oksana Fridmanska, a therapist at the health resort.

As part of the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Wounded Adults program, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provides assistance to Ukrainians who have suffered from hostile shelling of residential areas: treatment, rehabilitation, psychological help, etc. Since 2014, the Foundation has provided treatment and rehabilitation assistance to over 11 thousand Ukrainians.
