“Now My Daughter Will Live a Full Life”: 6-Year-Old Oleksandra From Zaporizhzhia Received Modern Hearing Aids From the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation

20.12.2023

Oleksandra is six years old and lives in Zaporizhzhia. After she survived the occupation in her grandmother’s village in Kherson region, her hearing significantly deteriorated. Her mother, who is raising her daughter alone, could not afford expensive hearing aids. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation came to help and Oleksandra received modern hearing devices that are adjustable to the girl’s individual features and needs.

“We were recommended to contact the Foundation. The very next day, they enrolled us to visit the Hearing Centre. Now my daughter will be able to hear the same sounds as we hear and will live a full life. This is the help we needed so much. I am very grateful. We advise people to contact the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, as they really help,” says Natalia, the girl’s mother.

Oleksandra has chronic bilateral sensorineural deafness of the third degree. It is important that she received the hearing devices when she is still in her preschool age: the earlier she starts using them, the easier it will be for her not only to communicate, but also to study, in particular, at school.

“The child needs highly efficient hearing aids. We have these programmable devices made in Denmark with a formula adjustable to the children’s needs. She will feel comfortable, hearing the surrounding environment, and there will be good speech intelligibility. We are very glad that we cooperate with the Foundation and can help the child,” said Hanna Yanichkina, audiologist and hearing aid specialist of the Hearing Centre.

The assistance with hearing aids in the framework of the project Rinat Akhmetov for Children. I Can Hear Now can be obtained by children under the age of seven, suffering from hearing impairment, who live or earlier lived in territorial communities in the war zones, under occupation or encirclement.
