Rinat Akhmetov launches a new program of his Humanitarian Centre – Help. Health
By the decision of Rinat Akhmetov, the Humanitarian Centre has combined all its activities in the field of medicine in a separate program “Help. Health” and launched a new project to help expectant mothers. This was announced by Rimma Fil, the coordinator of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Centre, at the today’s press-conference.
“Realizing the importance of timely and high-quality medical assistance, Rinat Akhmetov has taken an important decision to allocate the healthcare direction in the Humanitarian Centre in a separate program “Help. Health” - says Rimma Fil. - The program is scheduled until the end of 2014. After that we will make decisions depending on the humanitarian situation. To date, the “Health” includes several directions: aid to expectant mothers and babies, help the older age group, and further work to provide targeted assistance. We see how great the need for medical care is in the area of combat operations. Not everyone can afford to buy medicinal products his/herself due to the lack of social benefits and salaries. Pregnant women who are unable to buy the necessary supplies for the birth are in a critical situation”.
The program will help all pregnant women living in Donetsk or Makeevka, whose pregnancy due dates will be until January 31, 2015. Expectant mothers will be given a kit for mothers: this is the most complete kit that includes everything required for a mother, a child and a doctor during the childbirth and in the postpartum period. According to estimates of the Humanitarian Centre there are around 2,500 such women in this region.
“Rinat Akhmetov has set the task - every expectant mother in Donetsk should get an “Expectant mother’s package”- says Pavel Lapin, coordinator of the “Health” Program. – To receive the package you must first register on the hotline of the Centre 0 800 509 001. The package will be given directly to pregnant women at the Donbas Arena Stadium starting from December. You should have a passport and an “exchange card” on which the due date of birth is specified. The aid will be provided to absolutely all expectant mothers from Donetsk and Makeevka, even those who cannot come for health reasons. The operator of the hotline can provide all the details”.
The “Health” Program brought together all the projects in the field of healthcare that were earlier implemented by the Centre, responding quickly to the needs of the region. This includes the issue of first-aid kits, providing insulin and targeted assistance in form of medicines provided at the request on the hotline. According to the Humanitarian Map of the Humanitarian situation and needs of Regions of Donetsk and Lugansk, namely the need for medications is most acute at the moment - 51% of the people mention their shortage of medicines. Moreover, there are important needs for heart, pressure medicines and insulin.
The Centre has provided the Region of Donetsk with enough amount of insulin, which is issued on the basis of clinics in three cities, as well as delivered in a recipient-oriented way, helping people with insulin-dependent type of diabetes to survive. In particular, 2,500 patients received these essential drugs in November and December.
in October in addition to the targeted issuance of medicines 100 thousand packages of medicinal products packaged in 10 thousand kits for older age groups, and 1 thousand “Mother and Child” kits were delivered to Donbas. The Centre continues to produce these kits now.
In September-October in total 18,232 people received assistance from the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Centre for more than 10 million UAH.
