Rinat Akhmetov Transferred 700 Thousand UAH to Families of Dead Miners

04.04.2014

On April 2 Rinat Akhmetov’s Charitable Foundation “Development of Ukraine” paid 700 thousand UAH in aid to families of miners, who died as a result of an accident at the Severnaya mine in Makeyevka of Donetsk region.

The Foundation’s Founder Rinat Akhmetov made a decision on allocating these funds on February 19, 2014, a few days after the accident. On February 21 the Foundation representatives took part in the State commission on providing assistance to the families of the dead and declared their intention to allocate charitable aid.

On February 24, the Foundation initiated conducting of a second commission with the purpose of implementing the principle of social justice. The second commission consisted of 17 people: mine employees, representatives of trade unions, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and representatives of all dead miners’ families. As a result, it was decided to allocate 100 thousand UAH to each family of the dead miners from the Foundation’s budget. This aid was granted to the closest relatives, and distribution of aid between the relatives in each family was an individual matter.

After this, the Foundation’s managers forwarded a request on non-taxation of the charitable aid amount with the PIT (personal income tax) to Makeyevka City Council. During the session of the city council it was resolved to satisfy the request.

As a reminder, on February 17 of this year an accident took place at the Severnaya mine of Makeyevugol State Enterprise. As a result of gas-air mixture emission 7 miners died, during the accident there were 88 people in the mine.
