“I felt the result in less than a week”: severely injured Iryna from Mariupol undergoes rehabilitation course by Rinat Akhmetov Foundation
Iryna took her pregnant friend and sick husband out of Mariupol, besieged by the enemy. On the way, she was injured in the leg during an enemy shelling. She faced a long treatment. Due to complications, the woman is still limited in movement. Recently, Iryna underwent a physical and psychological rehabilitation course from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation in a health resort in the Transcarpathian region.
“This is a great gift from the Foundation. There is a very good psychologist here. And there are many unique procedures: the thermal healing waters alone are worth a look! Not even a week has passed since the start of the course, and I can already feel the results. Even the colour of my scar has changed,” Iryna admitted to Oleksiy Sukhanov, actor and TV presenter, ambassador of Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.
That day, they had just reached the Ukrainian checkpoint. Iryna got out, and a few minutes later, there was a powerful explosion... After surgery and treatment, time passed, but her mobility was not fully restored. The psychological trauma is also evident. However, staying in peace and quiet and the support of the health resort's specialists help.
“I really want the war to end. I don't want to hear explosions or planes. I want such silence, such peace, to hear only good news. About the return of our defenders and the reunification of families. I am sure it will happen,” says Iryna. She adds that the friend she rescued from burning Mariupol gave birth to a daughter.
As part of the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Wounded Adults programme, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provides assistance to Ukrainians who have suffered from hostile shelling of residential areas: treatment, rehabilitation, psychological help, etc.
Since 2014, the Foundation has provided treatment and rehabilitation to over 11,000 Ukrainians.
