More than 200 families from Mariupol will receive new housing in Dnipro, equipped by Rinat Akhmetov Foundation
A year ago, I'Mariupol. Housing a temporary housing project was launched for Mariupol residents who are forced to live in other cities of the country. At that time, the first modernised dormitory building in Dnipro accommodated 35 families. This summer, another 202 families will move into another renovated high-rise building in Dnipro. Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is the main Ukrainian donor of this project.
"It is very natural for the Foundation to help with public spaces: we have always taken care of sports grounds, playgrounds, children's rooms, coworking spaces, libraries - everything that helps citizens build new connections. It is very important for people to support each other, to preserve the spirit of the Mariupol community, to create a comfortable space, a place for intersection," said Natalia Yemchenko, member of the Foundation's Supervisory Board.
Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has equipped children's rooms, lounges, coworking spaces, corridors and halls in the dormitories; provided computer equipment, household appliances for laundries and kitchens; provided children's goods and toys, as well as books for the mini-library, including 148 books from the Kharkiv publishing house Vivat. With the Foundation's support, a playground will be built near the dormitory. Applications from families are being collected by the Mariupol City Council.
"I want to thank the Foundation for its systematic work since 2014. The war has been going on for eleven years now and the full-scale invasion is affecting the situation, but the Foundation is working. I am grateful to Rinat Akhmetov and the Foundation for supporting our community," said Vadym Boyko, Mayor of Mariupol.
The most vulnerable families in Mariupol move into the houses. The homes are equipped with all the essentials. We plan to open at least three more dormitories in cities across the country in the coming year.
"It is important for people who have left Mariupol to have something of their own, personal... Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has contributed very well: appliances, refrigerators, washing machines, computers, all recreation areas," said Svitlana Kartashova, director of the social hostel.
The project is implemented with the support of the French Government and the International Organisation for Migration.
Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provides support to internally displaced people from Mariupol across Ukraine: it delivers food and hygiene kits, provides psychological assistance, and organises holidays with gifts for children. Since 2014, the Foundation, SCM businesses and FC Shakhtar have helped more than 18 million people.
