Oleksandr was working in the field when a missile from an enemy Iskander exploded 40 steps away from him. Now the man is learning to live with a prosthesis. Recently, Oleksandr underwent a course of physical rehabilitation and psychological recovery at a sanatorium in Transcarpathia, provided by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.
“I return home refreshed, inspired. The procedures are good, the staff is friendly, and the food is excellent. I talked to a psychologist here. It really works — they ask you difficult questions that you don’t have the answers to, they explain them, and you understand. It’s very good that thanks to the Foundation there is an opportunity to undergo rehabilitation,” shares Oleksandr.
At the time of the injury, Alexander did not lose consciousness, so he remembers both the terrible pain and the people who provided him with first aid. He realized almost immediately what had happened to him. Owing to the emotional support of his family and colleagues, he is gradually returning to an active life.
“Life does not end there. No matter how bad it is, you need to move on. It does not matter that it’s on one leg. In the spring, I plan to sow crops and grow bread. Because you can’t leave the land,” says Oleksandr.
As part of the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Wounded Adults program, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation provides assistance to residents of Ukraine who have suffered as a result of enemy shelling: this includes treatment, rehabilitation, psychological assistance, etc. Since 2014, the Foundation has provided treatment and rehabilitation assistance to over 11,000 Ukrainians.
