23 years of SCM: Rinat Akhmetov allocates UAH 6.7 Billion to support the Armed Forces and civilians during 21 months of war
Businesses under SCM, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, and the football club «Shakhtar» have directed a total of USD 197 million (or more than EUR 185 million) to aid the country, military, and civilians over 21 months of full-scale invasion.
The primary areas of assistance include supporting the Armed Forces, providing humanitarian aid to the civilian population, communities, defenders of Mariupol, and preparing for the restoration of this heroic city.
Support for Ukrainian defenders is implemented within the framework of the «Rinat Akhmetov Steel Front» military project. For SCM, this is particularly crucial, as 14,000 employees of the company's businesses have joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and nearly 900 of our colleagues (military and civilian) have lost their lives.
Through the «Steel Front», military units nationwide consistently receive ammunition, vehicles, ambulances for military medics, drones, thermal imagers, sights, radios, cameras, clothing and footwear, medical kits, turnstiles, and other necessary items.
Additionally, Rinat Akhmetov allocated an additional UAH 1 billion ($25 million) for the project supporting the defenders of Mariupol «Heart of Azovstal». Defenders and their families receive assistance through six programs, including the recently launched "Home" pilot program, providing housing for defenders from the I and II disability groups. Fifteen apartments are planned to be purchased in November-December 2023.
Systemic humanitarian aid from SCM businesses and Rinat Akhmetov's projects is provided to peaceful Ukrainians in the frontline and de-occupied areas. People receive food, clothing, household items, medicines, hygiene products, etc. In cities where SCM operates, there is care for shelters, hospitals, sources of light and water, etc. Support is provided to local administrations and communal services.
Since the beginning of the war, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has handed over 700 thousand units of medicines and more than 13 million food kits since 2014. New projects have been launched to assist in the rehabilitation of adults, provide heaters, and help set up dormitories for Mariupol residents in Dnipro.
Support for athletes, displaced persons, Ukrainian defense forces, and residents of war-affected regions is also provided by the football club «Shakhtar». The club covered all expenses for the treatment in the U.S. of Azovstal defender Mikhail Dianov. It took care of organizing treatment and rehabilitation for the severely injured Avdiivka fighter Vitaliy Shumei in Barcelona and for the fighter and Shakhtar fan Yevhen Larchenko in Israel. Additionally, the club will allocate 22 million UAH of revenue from the friendly match with Tottenham to projects supporting and helping Ukrainians affected by the war.
A separate and crucial focus for SCM and Rinat Akhmetov in supporting the country is contributing to the current and future restoration of Ukraine. Investments are already being made in the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure, the construction of new productions, the creation of new jobs, and attracting European investments into the country's economy. Rinat Akhmetov has personally allocated 60 million UAH ($1.5 million) for the creation of the Mariupol Recovery Plan in 2023 as part of the «Mariupol.Reborn» initiative. The project also involves the architectural transformation of Ukrainian schools in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, under the initiative of Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov.
