Evacuation and Settlement project

Implementation year: 2014

On 23 May 2014, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation’s buses began to evacuate civilians from Sloviansk, and then, up until December 2014, from Kramatorsk, Mykolaivka, Horlivka, Donetsk and many other towns and villages across the Donbas region.

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation became the first organization to start evacuating civilians from the area of fighting. First of all, it evacuated those who had no-one to help them: women, elderly people, children, pupils of state-run social institutions, boarding schools and children’s homes.

Often, the Foundation’s staff had to tackle very difficult problems as part of this project: evacuating immobilized patients, families with little children, boarding schools, children’s homes and orphanages.

The Foundation, and later the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center, evacuated 39,462 persons from the active combat area, including 14,784 children. 6939 persons were temporarily accommodated at 29 recreation bases in the Odesa, Kherson and Mykolaiv Oblasts.
