Psychological assistance in Donbas kindergartens

25.11.2015

Psychologists of Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center work in Donbas kindergartens, in the "grey zone". The experts diagnose the psychological state of children, teach them special games to overcome fears and generate skills for free communication and free expression of emotions.

"When working with children, the Humanitarian Center's psychologists use active games and art therapy. It is especially relevant for children of preschool age. That is why they are making up stories and fairy tales, doing psycho-gymnastics, drawing and learning to show tricks in the company of their psychologists. These activities seem like a game for kids. But they are effective work tools for psychologists. In such a way children learn simple self-regulation techniques, overcome their fears and anxiety, develop their communication skills", – Darya Kasyanova, the Head of programs and projects of Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center, explained.

As of today, the Humanitarian Center's psychologists visited 68 preschool institutions.  16 of them are located in the "grey zone". 6,255 children from 4 to 6 years old were provided with assistance.

Altogether, over the whole period of the Humanitarian Center's operation, psychological assistance was provided to 42,000 people, 38,500 of them were children.
