“One of the most socially significant and important books”

25.03.2019

Recently, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation presented the photo book Donbas and Civilians at the annual London Book Fair.

According to one of the book fair’s participants, the Ukrainian writer Oleksandr Korotko, this unique publication made a huge impression on the fair’s visitors.

‘One of the most socially significant and important books has caused extraordinary interest. I haven’t met a single indifferent look – this book is perceived like a huge human pain. People in the Donbas need continuous attention and support. Thanks to the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, they not only receive humanitarian aid, but also, the world is learning more and more about their tragedy,’ Oleksandr Korotko explained.

According to the writer, it is very important today to raise the topic of tragedy of civilians in the Donbas to the highest level.

‘We cannot let this problem leave the zone of attention,’ Oleksandr Korotko emphasized.

Donbas and Civilians is a chronicle of horrible events that take place in the center of Europe today. This photo book features 11 stories of ordinary people from Kramatorsk, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Krasnohorivka, Pisky and other towns who found themselves in the epicenter of the War in Donbas. The book’s heroes are severely wounded children who saw with their own eyes exploding missiles and the death of their close ones. Old people who lost relatives and were left to live in destroyed homes. Schoolchildren and teachers who conduct classes in the area of continuing fighting. This book is about war and civilians. About burnt houses and charred hopes. About the people surviving with the hope for peace.
