Assistance for Holy Dormition Lavra

04.12.2015

The Holy Dormition Lavra hosted 300 internally displaced persons, almost 100 of them are children. People were forced to leave their hometowns due to the constant shelling and threat to their lives. These internally displaced persons are mostly low-income families and disabled people. The war literally left many of them without a roof over their heads. Lavra provided them with food and shelter.

However, on the threshold of winter the monastery faced shortages of coal for domestic heating. The Vicar of Holy Dormition Monastery Arseniy addressed Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center for help. The Humanitarian Center has already delivered 3 rail cars of coal, which is more than 200 tons. 130 more tons will be sent in the next few days.

"During the entire military conflict in Donbas Rinat Akhmetov has been helping civilians survive through this difficult time. And, of course, he responded the request to help with coal and he entrusted the Humanitarian Center to render all the necessary assistance. We really hope that the coal provided by Humanitarian Center will help these people to spend this winter in warmth, comfort, and hope for peace", – Rimma Fil, the Humanitarian Center's Coordinator, commented.

"We are grateful to God for sending us these caring people who helped us to solve this problem. And we are already prepared to enter the heating season 2015-2016", – Archimandrite Feofan Liukshyn, the treasurer of the Holy Dormition Lavra, shared.

As a reminder, Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center also provides humanitarian aid to IDPs living in Sviatohirsk. Over 1.5 years the total number of survival kits issued in this town made 40,000. The humanitarian aid is provided to the most vulnerable categories of IDPs: elderly and disabled people, families with many children, etc.
