The Museum of Civilian Voices of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation Becomes the First Representative of Ukraine in the Oral History Association

The Museum of Civilian Voices of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation broadens its international cooperation perspective – this is a great effort that aims to convey to the world the truth about the events in Ukraine, sharing first-hand what its citizens are going through during the war. 

Recently, the Museum received membership in the international Oral History Association (OHA), based in Waco, Texas (U.S.A.). The Museum is the first and so far the only representative of Ukraine in this Association.

The Museum of Civilian Voices of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is the world’s largest archive of stories from Ukrainian civilians who suffered from the war. Its collection now contains almost 65,000 stories. The Museum operates daily towards the preservation of the national memory of Ukraine, so that the truth about the war is not forgotten, and the names, voices and faces of its witnesses and victims do not turn into pallid statistics.

The membership in the Oral History Association is another step of the Museum of Civilian Voices of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation in the international arena. Thanks to this cooperation, testimonies of Ukrainians who live amid the war “here and now” will be spread in the world.

OHA has been active since 1966 and brings together teachers, students, historians, archivists, librarians, and filmmakers. In 2022, the Association condemned russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, noting that “The purpose of this aggression is to make the history of the Ukrainian people invisible.” The Association supports the work of those who document the atrocities committed by russians.
