SCM Corporate Foundation for Development of Ukraine together with All Ukrainian "Coalition of HIV service organizations" held the Second All Ukrainian Conference on national response to TB epidemic: 10 TB challenges and ways to overcome them

On November 13-14, in Kyiv, SCM Corporate Foundation for Development of Ukraine together with All Ukrainian "Coalition of HIV service organizations" held the Second All Ukrainian Conference on national response to TB epidemic: 10 TB challenges and ways to overcome them. 

 
The conference participants included representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Verkhovna Rada and the relevant Ministries, regional anti-TB services, medical institutions, international and partnership organizations, non-governmental organizations, leading scientists and experts. There were about 270 participants from all over Ukraine and from abroad and the Event was covered by 30 national mass media. 
 
The Round Table took place within the framework of the conference, at which the greeting words were expressed by the members of the Presidium Raisa Bogatyryova - the leader of the Party of Regions in the Verkhovna Rada and a deputy of the 5th convocation of the VR of Ukraine; Mikhail Papiyev - the Minister of Labor and Social Policy of Ukraine; Viktor Korzh - the Minister for sports, family and youth of Ukraine; Anatoliy Zabolonty - Director of the Corporate Foundation for Development of Ukraine and Natalya Podlesnaya - Head of the "Coalition of HIV service organizations".
 
Also among the participants of the Round Table there were: V.P. Ivasyuk, Deputy Minister of Healthcare of Ukraine, A.M. Orda, Deputy Minister of Healthcare of Ukraine; V.I. Petrenko, the Head of Committee for resisting AIDS/HIV, TB and  other socially dangerous diseases; Pierpaolo de Colombani, a regional specialist of the WHO Regional Office for Europe; E. Radziyevskaya, PATH Deputy Director; V.G. Chernenko, Head of the Secretariat, the Healthcare Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine; N.G. Kalashnik, Deputy Head of the State Department for punishment execution; D. Sherenbey, Deputy Head of All Ukrainian Network of AIDS/HIV infected people; V. Shovkovskaya, External Communications Director of the Foundation for Development of Ukraine and T.R. Bilyk, National Manager of the Foundation for Development of Ukraine. 
 
The reports and presentations made in the process of the plenary meeting included the following subjects: "Situation in Europe with TB epidemic: progress and challenges",  "Perspectives of reforms in phthisiology", "TB in places of confinement", "Current situation in Ukrainian TB legislation and ways of reforming it", "Perspectives of control over TB epidemic in Ukraine: what is to be done", "Multi-resistant TB: epidemic situation, perspectives of program implementation", "Co-infection HIV/AIDS", "Information campaign about TB. Results of the All Ukrainian research on people's attitude towards TB problems", 
 
"Perspectives of development of social services for high risk groups and activity of non-governmental organizations in this field", "Experience of successful development and implementation of efficient strategies on fighting TB epidemic in Donetsk Oblast", "Presentation on the work of the National "TB Hot Line", "Experience of successful implementation of efficient strategies on fighting TB epidemic in Sumy Oblast". 
 
The participants of the Event included representatives of the Verkhovna Rada and the Government of Ukraine, regional anti-TB services, medical institutions, international and partnership organizations, non-governmental organizations, scientists and experts.
 
The conference workshops were dedicated to the issues of: preventive measures and treatment of TB in places of confinement; TB preventive measures; monitoring of quality of TB drugs; rights and obligations of patients, TB infected people, HIV associated TB; social services providing access to TB diagnostics and treatment for high risk groups and multi-resistant TB. The participants of the working groups together with experienced moderators developed recommendations on each challenge, which were included into the Conference Resolution. 
 
At present the Resolution is being reviewed and edited by the initiative group, which includes representatives from different Oblasts of Ukraine. The final resolution will be sent to the corresponding ministries and department as well as to nongovernmental partners.
