Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center continues rehabilitation of injured children

04.04.2018

April 4 is the International Day for Mine Awareness. According to the UN, Donbas is one of the most mined areas on the planet overfilled with mines, unexploded ordnance, and other deadly explosive objects. Every day, 220,000 children living in this region risk getting killed or injured during a walk or on their way to school. In most cases, children do not understand the dangers of explosives, hand grenades and get dangerous injuries, and even lifelong disability.

According to the OSCE, only in 2017, more than 40 children were injured – killed or maimed by fragments of ammunition – because of the war in Donbas.

The Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center is the only organization that has been systematically providing assistance in the treatment and rehabilitation of injured children since the first days of military operations in the region.

“The main task of the Humanitarian Center is to help here and now, because many cases require urgent actions. The Center has 236 children with shell fragment wounds and injuries registered in its database. Assistance has been provided in form of medications and expendables for operations, recovery facilities, – said Anastasiia Kladova, Head of the “Targeted Assistance” Program of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center. – But after urgent operations and prosthetics, children require rehabilitation, not only physically, but also psychologically. Therefore, the “Rehabilitation of Injured Children” project exists. During this time, 80 injured children received assistance. Many of them were able to return to full-fledged life

This year, thanks to the project of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center, over 30 children with serious injuries will be able to undergo treatment and rehabilitation in the best sanatoriums of Ukraine.
