15.12.2020

On 15 December, Ochakiv Multidisciplinary Hospital (Mykolaiv region) received a high-class lung ventilator from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. The equipment was donated within the framework of the project Fighting Covid-19 in Ukraine, which became part of the program Rinat Akhmetov – Saving Lives.

‘A key element of help to the country was supply of over 200 modern lung ventilators purchased by the Foundation and businesses of SCM Group for public hospitals. This is the type of equipment that the Ukrainian healthcare system needed most of all. Despite the worldwide shortage, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation managed to purchase and deliver ventilators to Ukraine. To date, almost 200 units of this equipment have been handed over to healthcare professionals. They save lives of patients with severe COVID-19 complications in all regions of the country,’ said Natalya Yemchenko, a member of the Foundation's Supervisory Board.

Yekateryna Svyrydenko, a representative of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, said that the project Fighting Covid-19 in Ukraine is unprecedented for the country.

‘Rinat Akhmetov was the first to help healthcare professionals and allocated UAH 300 million for the fight against COVID-19. These funds were used for purchase of 200,000 personal protective equipment kits and consumables, 337,000 express tests, over 1,100 units of medical and laboratory equipment, which were delivered to hub hospitals. This is the largest-scale and most systematic private initiative aimed at helping the public healthcare system,’ underlined Yekateryna Svyrydenko.

Vitaliy Kim, the Head of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, thanked the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for its help to the region, emphasizing its extreme importance:

‘I am very glad that socially responsible business pays attention to the country's challenges. Your Foundation not only donates ventilators, but also delivers training. It is very important. It is very positive that business extends its helping hand, especially in such difficult conditions. Thank you.’

According to Pavlo Heorgiyev, the head of the Health Department of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, healthcare workers really need support in the face of the global challenge.

‘On behalf of all the healthcare professionals, I would like to thank the Foundation for such necessary gifts. We have personnel who will use the equipment. Thank you,’ said Pavlo Heorgiyev.

Olha Stepanova, the chief physician of Ochakiv Multidisciplinary Hospital, noted that the healthcare facility has been helping COVID-19 patients since 28 November.

‘We have 180 beds. Now, our hospital has 50 patients with confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis or suspected COVID-19 positive status. We saw that such equipment was donated to other hospitals and we are very glad that our hospital also received such an inestimable gift. This is a high-end device that has many functions. Thanks to this equipment, we will be able to preserve health of many people. This is a great New Year gift to our doctors and patients. I am very grateful to Rinat Akhmetov and all staff members of his Foundation,’ said Olha Stepanova.

Together with the ventilator, doctors of the intensive care unit received sets of medical uniforms custom-made for them on the special order of the Foundation.
