The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation transferred a modern ventilator to Hospital No.2 in Zhytomyr

27.11.2020

V. P. Pavlusenko Hospital No. 2 in Zhytomyr received a high-end ventilator from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. Both doctors and patients were very much waiting for this device here.

"When Ukraine faced the threat of a pandemic, the state health system was completely unprepared for the new challenge. There was not enough equipment to help patients with severe coronavirus: protective equipment for doctors and rapid tests. The first to help the country came Rinat Akhmetov, who allocated  UAH 300 million to fight COVID-19 in February. This is the largest contribution made by one philanthropist to help Ukrainian state medicine. The purchase of over 200 cutting-edge ventilators for public hospitals has been crucial in providing the assistance by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation's project Fighting COVID-19 in Ukraine. Despite the shortage of high-tech medical equipment in the world, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation managed to buy and deliver it to the country. 187 devices have been handed over to doctors, and they are already saving the lives of patients with severe coronavirus," Natalya Yemchenko, member of the Supervisory Board of the Foundation, said.

A patient who was in a critical condition was immediately connected to the ventilator just transferred by the Foundation. Director of the hospital Ihor Kukharuk expressed his gratitude for the help and brought its importance into focus:

"I would like to express my gratitude to the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for such timely assistance to our medical institution. This ventilator will be used in daily work to help and save the lives of our patients."

As noted by Deputy Head of Zhytomyr Regional State Administration, Natalia Ostapchenko, this is not the first assistance rendered by Rinat Akhmetov to the region.

"Now we are better prepared to fight the pandemic since we have such a ventilator. Now our doctors can provide high-quality attention. I hope it will save more than one life," Natalia Ostapchenko said.

Along with the ventilator, the doctors of the intensive care unit received individual sets of medical clothing from the Foundation.

Fighting COVID-19 in Ukraine is a large-scale project of the Foundation created to help save people's lives. It is implemented under the program Rinat Akhmetov – Saving Lives. Earlier, Rinat Akhmetov launched 200 Ambulances for Ukraine, which was was implemented as part of this program. Back then, all regional state medical institutions received 200 special vehicles with state-of-the-art military equipment that can get over off-road conditions within the record time of six months. Moreover, 22 vehicles equiped with ventilators`for newborns were also delivered. This is the largest contribution made by one philanthropist to the state medicine of Ukraine since our country became independent. These days, many of these ambulances are involved in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic.
